Day 1 : Departure for Namibia

Today your journey begins with the long-haul flight to Windhoek, Namibia

 

Day 2: Welcome in Windhoek

Today you arrive in Windhoek, Namibia. Here you will be welcomed by your friendly English-speaking tour guide.  A short drive brings us to a beautifully situated game farm, a few miles from Namibia's capital Windhoek. In the afternoon, you get to start your African trip with a traditional, open-vehicle game drive. 78 km

 

Day 3: The Waterberg massif

Today we drive North for about three hours to the famous Waterberg Plateau, an impressive and historic massif that rises about 200 meters from the plain. In the afternoon, we will take a short walk to the Plateau, where a magnificent view awaits you from the top. The walk is approximately two and a half hours long, but can be shortened. Tonight we will enjoy a dinner in one of the park’s restaurants. We will spend the night in a small bungalow situated at the foot of the massif. 259 km / B

 

Day 4: To Etosha National Park

In the morning, after breakfast, we head Northwest to the world famous Etosha National Park. On our way there, you can stop in the old mining town of Tsumeb to visit the museum. Here we will learn more about impressive mining history of the city, the life of the indigenous people and the German colonial history of Namibia. After another stop at the beautiful Otjikoto Lake, we will arrive at the entrance of the world famous Etosha National Park during the late afternoon. Tonight we check into a beautiful lodge situated in the park. Here we are surrounded by nature and the sounds of Africa. 470 km / B

 

Day5: The Etosha Pan

Today is dedicated to the famous Etosha National Park. The park is 22,275 km² big and is situated in the Northern part of Namibia. It is one of the country’s most important National Park’s. It is located on the northwest edge of the Kalahari Basin and covers almost the entire 5,000 km ² Etosha pan. The name "Etosha" comes from the Oshivambo and means "big white place". The Etosha National Park is home to a huge variety of animals: except for crocodiles, hippos, waterbuck and buffalo. After an extensive safari ride in our vehicle, our lodge for the night welcomes us with a big pool to cool down in. Tonight we can let our minds wonder whilst watching the illuminated waterhole.  B

 

Day 6: Twyfelfontein

After breakfast we leave our lodge and drive in Southwest direction. On our game drive through the Etosha National Park we can discover many more of the 114 mammal species, 340 species of birds, 110 reptile species and 16 amphibian species. At noon we leave the park via the southern Andersson Gate and drive past the village of Outjo towards Twyfelfontein. Built on large granite cliffs, the stylish lodge is located in solitude, with beautiful views and a refreshing pool where we will be staying for the night. 411 km / h, D

 

Day 7: From the footsteps of the Bushmen to the rough Atlantic coast

In the morning after breakfast we visit the famous World Heritage Site of Twyfelfontein. In this area thousands of rock paintings are collected in a small space - as rock paintings, but especially as rock engravings - which come from Middle and Neolithic cultures and are among the oldest representations in Africa. In the early afternoon we set off and head West to the rough Atlantic coast. On the shallow and inhospitable coastline, we also visit an impressive seal colony. Between 80,000 and 100,000 miniature fur seals roam the rocks at the Cross Cape. In the afternoon the trail leads us to Swakopmund, on the cold Atlantic Ocean. For the next two nights we stay in a lovely guesthouse offering beautiful views of the ocean. 384 km / B

 

Day 8: A day in Swakopmund

Today is free for excursions of all kinds. With only 44,000 residents, the city is quite small, however it has a lot to offer. On the pier, which opens into the Atlantic, you will find rest and relaxation. 0 km /  B

 

Day 9: Trough the Rubble Desert to the Namib Naukluft National Park

In the morning we drive in an easterly direction first through the rubble desert of the Namib. After two exciting passes, the Gaub Pass and the Kuiseb Pass, today we come across the southern tropic of Capricorn. In the afternoon we finally reach our current accommodation. For the next two nights, we stay in a beautiful lodge near the entrance of the Namib Naukluft National Park. 134 km / B

 

Day 10: The red dunes of the Namib Desert

Today we have to get up very early, because we drive into the park at sunrise to watch the sun throw a fantastic shadow play on the Namib dunes. We will also visit the 140m high famous dune 45. At the end of the tarred road, it's time to take a 4x4 ride and then a walk to the so-called Dead Vlei, where the dead camel thorn trees form a fantastic photo backdrop in a salt pan. We pass by mighty sand dunes and visit the actual Sossusvlei. In the afternoon we visit the Tsauchab River with a short walk down to the beautiful Sesriem Canyon. 82 km / B

 

Day 11: En Route to Aus

After breakfast we drive in a Southerly direction over the Tsarishoogte pass today. After a lunch break in the small village of Helmeringhausen we arrive in the afternoon at the village Aus. West of Aus the Namib begins, and here you can usually see a herd of wild horses, which, is believed, were left behind by the German army. With a little luck, we will be able to observe the extraordinary animals up-close, which have adapted to the extreme living conditions in the desert. In the late afternoon we will arrive in the small village of Aus where we will spend the night at a wonderful lodge with fantastic views. 344 km / B

 

Day 12: The second largest canyon in the world

Today we continue South to the famous Fish River Canyon, which is considered the second largest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon. On a 4-kilometer, uphill walk along the edge of the canyon in the afternoon, we see one of Namibia's most impressive landscape forms bathed in warm afternoon light, creating a fantastic play of colours and shapes on the cliffs. For the next two nights, we will be guests at a beautiful lodge near the Fish River Canyon. 285 km / B

 

Day 13: The hot springs of Ai-Ais

Today you can take a trip to the hot springs of Ai-Ais at the Southern end of the Fish River Canyon. Here the 85 km long and famous Fish River Canyon Hiking Trail ends. A section of the magnificent rock world you will get to see on a short easy walk. The mighty cliff faces provide excellent photo opportunities and with a bit of luck, you can see Klipschliefer, Springbok, ibex, Kudus or even Zebras. After the walk, take a dip in the springs of Ai-Ais for refreshment, before returning to your lodge in the afternoon. 154 km / B

 

Day 14: The giant Kalahari

In the morning you can expect a drive to the famous quiver tree forest just outside of Keetmanshoop. The quiver tree forest is one of the tourist attractions in Southern Namibia: in 1995, the area Northeast of Keetmanshoop was declared a national monument. There are about 250,5 m high quiver trees that are 200-300 years old, which usually stand alone - and thus make excellent photo opportunities. After a Northeasterly drive you finally reach the Kalahari in the late afternoon, an incredibly impressive, approximately 1.2 million km ² large sandy desert of predominantly fine powdery, red sand. Here you will find your beautiful lodge. Ancient red sand dunes and unique vegetation with old camel thorn trees and occasional tufts of grass and, of course, native animals characterise the approximately 10,000-acre lodge's wildlife sanctuary in the Southwestern region of the Kalahari. 443 km / B

 

Day 15: Back in Windhoek

After a good breakfast, drive back to the state capital of Namibia. Although Windhoek is comparatively clear and small with just 320,000 inhabitants for a capital, there will still be a big "change of scenery" today. In the afternoon, you will move into your stylish hotel. Afterwards, a short Guided City Tour of Windhoek will introduce you to the life of capital cities and some of the city's sights. 244 km / B

 

Day 16: Say Goodbye to Namibia

This morning after breakfast we pack our bags and say goodbye to Namibia. You drive to the Hosea Kutako International Airport, where you drop off your rental car and this wonderful journey comes to an end. It follows the check-in for the journey home. 40 km / B
