Day 1: Departure to Africa 

Today the journey begins with a long-haul flight to Tanzania

Day 2: Welcome in Tanzania

In the morning your arrival is at Kilimanjaro International Airport, the airport of Arusha in Tanzania, where it is called: Jambo! You will be warmly welcomed by your English tour guide. Together we embark on the short drive to the West, where we spend the night in a comfortable lodge. After a refreshment we can enjoy the beautiful ambience of the Guest House and relax by the pool. On clear days, a fantastic view of the famous Kilimanjaro offers great photo opportunities. In the early evening we enjoy the sunset at the lodge, before we are invited to the welcome dinner. 32 km / D

 

Day 3: The flamingos at Lake Mantra National Park

Today after breakfast we drive West through the Great Rift Valley and will reach the beautiful Lake Manyara National Park around noon. In the West, the park is bordered by high cliffs from the Great Rift Valley, which covers about 220 km² of the Eastern side of the Manyara Lake. On our safari today through umbrella acacia forests and enchanting grasslands, we may, with a little bit of luck, also observe some of the animals. Many elephants and buffaloes are found here, but also black rhinos, zebras, hippos, giraffes, monkeys, baboons, leopards, zebra and various antelope species, including impala, bushbuck, kirks dik-dik, klipspringer and blue wildebeest. A great highlight could be the sighting of the lions! There are also over 400 species of birds. Thousands of dwarf flamingos and pink flamingos can be found here and offer fantastic photo opportunities. With 10% of its revenue from tourism, Lake Manyara National Park supports the construction of schools, water systems and health centres in the local area. This afternoon, we will arrive at our beautifully located lodge, where dinner will be served in the early evening. Tonight, you get to fall asleep to dreamlike sounds of Africa. 169 km / B, PL,D

 

Day 4: In the Serengeti National Park 

Today we take a spectacular route up to the crater highlands, where we enjoy a fantastic view of the Ngorongoro Crater. Here we soon reach the world famous Serengeti National Park. The drive to our fantastic lodge, situated in the middle of the park, will be our first big Serengeti safari. The word "Serengeti" is derived from the term "Siringitu" from the Masai language and means "the endless land" or "the endless plain". The Serengeti National Park  is one of the largest parks in the world, with its 15,000 km² area. The park has been part of UNESCO's World Natural Heritage since 1981. There are an estimated 1.5 million blue wildebeest, Thomson and Grant gazelles, plain zebras and buffalo, as well as thousands of predators. In the afternoon we arrive at our beautiful lodge in the middle of the Serengeti National Park with fantastic views. Tonight’s tasty dinner is served in the on-site restaurant. 211 km / B, PL,D

Day 5 & 6: In the footsteps of the great Wildebeest Migration 

After breakfast we head North to follow the spectacular wildebeest migration. In particular, the more than 1 million wildebeest, zebra, Thomson gazelle and eland antelope are known for their extensive migrations, depending on the dry and rainy season. In the course of a year, they wander through the entire Serengeti to the adjacent area of the Masai Mara in Kenya and back. The herds migrate between seasonal water sources and the grasslands, starting in May and June from the central plains to the Western corridor and then Northwards. The herds accompany predators such as lions, spotted hyenas, striped hyenas, African gold wolves and blackthorn jackals. It is impossible to predict exactly where the hike will be, but we will have two days to find it. A worldwide unique spectacle and a great highlight of this tour! For the next two nights we will be staying in a stylish lodge in the middle of the Serengeti National Park. B, PL,D

Day 7 : From Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

This morning we get up nice and early! Before breakfast we venture on a morning drive in the vast plains of the Serengeti. Back at the lodge, we enjoy a brunch before making our way South, towards the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. In a collapsed volcanic mountain, at about 1,700 m above sea level lies the crater floor of the Ngorongoro. The side walls are between 400 and 600 m high, so that the crater edge is at about 2,300 m. The diameter of the crater is between 17 and 21 km. Here we stay in a comfortable hotel, located near the crater with spectacular views. 295 km / B, PL,D

Day 8: Natural paradise Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast we leave our hotel and explore the unique landscapes of the Ngorongoro Crater. A true natural paradise. Almost all animal species of Eastern Africa are found in this area. Due to the different altitudes, the landscape varies between bush, heathland and remnants of evergreen mountain forests. The crater floor is covered with short grass savanna, waterholes, river landscapes, wetlands and acacia forests. Approximately 25,000 large mammals inhabit the crater, including Africa's highest predator density. Particularly large is the number of zebras, buffaloes, wildebeests, eland antelopes, Grant and Thomson gazelles. They are hunted by lions, spotted hyenas and leopards. In addition, there are elephants in the crater. One animal you will not easily spot here are Hippo. Black rhino are also home here. The large animal migrations of the Serengeti also lead through the Ngorongoro Crater. After a scrumptious picnic at Hippo Lake, we do further game viewing as a trail leads us up a steep mountain pass to the crater where we return to our accommodation in Arusha. In the evening, we will review this truly unique journey with a delicious farewell dinner. 213 km / h, PL,D

 

Day 9: Say goodbye to Tanzania or fly to the tropical Zanzibar

This morning after breakfast, we make our way back to Kilimanjaro Airport, Arusha. Here your long-haul flight back home begins. Alternatively, this trip can be supplemented by a trip to the beautiful spice island Zanzibar. More on page 53. 32 km / B

 

Day 10: Return home
